Théâtre Antique d'Orange

Mom and I took are first P Day in four weeks so we went up to Orange to see the Ancient Roman Theater.  We were supposed to see it when we went up to Couples Conference, but we needed to get back to attend a young adult activity so we didn't see it.  Orange and Avignon are only an hours drive from our house.  Since we were by ourselves we took our time and had a nice day in Orange.  This theater was constructed in about 10 BC under the rule of Augustus Caesar.  Much of it original beauty is gone now.  The Visigoths had there way with it.  They still perform here, classical music, theater and Opera only!  Phantom of the Opera played here last season.  This holds 10,000 people.  Even with my 10mm wide angle lens I couldn't get a good photo of it.
We had lunch outside since it was warm.  The south has a much different feel than the north of France.  Avignon is still one of my favorite villes.   We finished our day in Avignon.  It was  nice to go to a more tranquil place.  Marseille is anything but tranquil.
